Online Holiday Spending in 2007 Nears $28 Billion

comScore, who is a leader in “measuring the digital world,” released a holiday spending update that shows nearly $28 Billion were spent during the 2007 holiday season, which includes online spending from November 1st to December 27th.

This is a 19% increase over the 2006 holiday season, which reported online spending of about$23.5 billion. comScore chairman Gian Fulgoni added to this by saying, “Even as the holiday shopping season winds down after Christmas, we continue to see some relatively strong online spending days.” In fact, the day after Christmas saw online sales of about $545 million this year, which is almost double from last year.

“This would appear to indicate that consumers were willing, and able, to take advantage of the attractive late-season promotions and price discounts offered by retailers this year,” Fulgoni said.

Here are some of the more notable dates analyzed during the 2006 to 2007 online spending comparison by comeScore:

  • Thanksgiving day- $.21 Billion in 2006 versus $.27 Billion in 2007 (29% increase)
  • Black Friday- $.43 Billion in 2006 versus $.53 Billion in 2007 (22% increase)
  • Cyber Monday- $.61 Billion in 2006 versus $.73 Billion in 2007 (21% increase)
  • Green Monday- $.66 Billion in 2006 versus $.88 Billion in 2007 (33% increase)
