Yahoo! has created a new and unique way for users to share videos, called Yahoo Live. What sets Yahoo Live different from other similar video sharing sites is very simple, it’s Live. That means, “What you’re watching, right now, is what other people are watching, right now.”
They wanted to create an experience that was more like watching television, in real time. Also, according to the Yahoo! Developer Network, they also released some web services and flash objects for web weavers and developers. Using these tools, you can:
- Find out who’s broadcasting right now
- Get data about past broadcasts
- See snapshots of past broadcasts
- Embed live video in your blog or web page
Right now Yahoo Live is just an experimental release. They wanted to go ahead and launch the site so that users can interact and provide feedback. If you have used Yahoo! Live please post a comment on what you like/dislike about it, and how you think it compares to other video sharing sites, like YouTube and Break.
I must say I was surprised when I read about the launch of this site, especially given all the chaos over Microsoft’s bid for Yahoo.
