Taltopia, which was launched in March 2007, is an online “media distribution and social networking company whose aim is to provide aspiring and professional talent with a world-wide stage to share their abilities across the web.” If you have talent then you can show it on Taltopia, and if not then you can become the critic.
Today Taltopia, which has been completely self-funded up to now, announced a Series “A” round of funding of $800,000, which was led by an angel investor from Go4Funding. According to site creators, Allen Vartazarian and Anthony Zanontian, this money is going to be used to broad the reach of Taltopia and to add some new features to the site.
Allen Vartazarian said “Taltopia is about empowering fans to decide who gets exposure,” which is a reflection on their “fame” and “shame” voting system. This unique approach has distinguished Taltopia ahead of other social networking sites trying to accomplish the same goal.
If you are interested, here is a description of how Taltopia works:
This free service allows users to create descriptive profiles and to upload videos, images, and audio for the general viewing public to vote on. Voters choose to “Fame” or “Shame” a talent and can add themselves as a “Fan” of talent they like. Users with the highest number of votes in each category then make it to the front page of the website, where they gain an enormous amount of exposure and judgment. The talent with a combination of the most votes and fans in all of the categories will be considered the “Featured Talent”, and will be highlighted in its own section on the main page. Every visitor to Taltopia.com will notice them as the current “web celeb.”
For users who are not getting the exposure they think they deserve, we offer the “Wall of Fame” which grants users the opportunity to “buy” their fame. Users bid for the limited number of spots on this page, with outbid users being bumped down to lower spots.
Taltopia is building a community that is highly motivated to watch, judge, and vote on talent. The service is free for everyone, and will always be free for everyone.
If you are looking for your next big break then you might have just found it. Post your talent and let the community decide whether it is “fame” or a “shame.”

Thanks Stan!
I’m going to check this out. Do you have any clue how active/what their user base is like?
Mattaw’s last blog post..Thou Shall Take Care of Thy Flock
No, I am not exactly sure on that Mattaw. I do know that they have a decent amount of videos submitted daily, and considering they are a new site it does seem like they have a nice amount of community interaction.
